Dear Kat,
As I write this, Grace is looking upon me disapprovingly. It is actually very funny.
You already know this, but I have been working to prevent diseases in the poorer areas of the city. It is extremely sad, but satisfying work. I have learned so much from the palace healers! Now, I can actually make feathers, that you dip into water, and they change colors to tell you if it is drinkable or not.
Now, I will write about the person who is trying to read this letter over my shoulder, pretend to ignore me, and look down at me disdainfully, all at the same time. Grace. She does not exactly approve of my actions, as of late. I will give you the whole story before this Player whom I have become acquainted with, tells you her story. At first she was very good about my job that she chose to come along with me, and was very helpful. Then, she started talking about the poor men on the street corners and how evil they were. I didn't like this and told her so. That was when the pouting started. Then, I found that it was much easier to work in breeches. Now she feels that I am being indecent. And then came my hair. It was in my face, dirty, sweaty, and over all gross. So I chopped it to my ear lobes. Grace actually wept over my hair. And now I am trying not to laugh at her fourteen-year-old haughtiness.
And of course, there is Liz. For some reason, she averts her eyes every time Phel comes into the room. Not in a lover sort of way. But an ashamed way. I don't know why, and they won't tell me. This is extremely frustrating on my part. Secondly, she got in a fight with a drunken man. Liz doesn't know the word compassion, I'm afraid. The man hit on her. She slapped him. He broke her arm. Phel got me, but couldn't talk because he was doubled over laughing. I don't think this helped her opinion of those less fortunate than her in any way.
Phel, I regret to say, is still being Phel.
Miss you all, and hope Wulf hasn't killed anyone yet,
Adara
P.S. I hope you have both been using that sun-stopper I sent you. It took me a long time to make it. If Wulf isn't using it, which of course he isn't, lie to me. It will be for the better.
